Welcome to The Hideout
The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch is an all-inclusive, upscale riding and
horsemanship guest ranch limited to approx. 24 guests weekly with a 6-night stay. All guests arrive on Sunday and leave Saturday morning. As you can read from our guest testimonials, we offer a very personal, small, and intimate experience focused on all things horses. We care deeply of our guests, staff, horses, and land.
The Hideout is in beautiful Shell, Wyoming East of Cody, and Yellowstone National Park at the foot of The Big Horn Mountains. With a backyard of 650,000 acres in an area with tremendous diversity of scenery and altitudes ranging from 4,200 to 13,100 feet, you will seldom see the same trail twice. While The Hideout is all about riding,
horses, and horsemanship, we do have some non-riding activities available. Since its beginnings, The Hideout has always been an exceptionally clean, organized, and well-maintained guest ranch. The owners are hands on very involved in the day-to- day operations and well-being of the guests. Everybody at The Hideout really cares
about your experience, supported by a strong culture. It is one of the reasons many of our repeat guests from around the world return year after year.
Accommodations
The Hideout takes pride in clean and upscale accommodations, which are
decorated in warm western colors using only the highest quality materials.
Each room features a private bathroom, fiberoptic wireless internet,
telephone, refrigerator, Nespresso coffee maker, full amenities, bathrobes,
spacious front porch with endless vista, etc. This ranch is well-funded, and the
owners do not take shortcuts when upgrading cabins, mattresses, furniture,
and other amenities. The cabins feature king, queen and double beds with
pull out sofas and lofts; booking depends on what the guests are looking for.
The cabins, main lodge, hot tub and pool areas are surrounded by green,
irrigated manicured lawns and shade trees.
Dining
The culinary experience at The Hideout is one of the reasons guests choose to return. Our chef prepares everything from scratch using freshest available ingredients that are often sourced from local farmers. In addition to meat, The Hideout kitchen serves fish and seafood, pasta, chicken and various other fares with the week’s dining experience culminating at an over-the-top Friday evening cook-out. The Hideout caters to most diets within reason. Wine and beer are included with dinner and cocktails during nightly cocktail hour. The Hideout carries a full liquor license and sells alcohol on the premises. One of the highlights on the day during cocktail hour, is watching the daily slideshow of the riding pictures taken by our Wranglers during the rides together with your other riding travelers.
Recreation
Riding Activities
The Hideout is known for its riding and horsemanship. Also playing with
cattle on horseback and learn how to handle cattle with low stress is a
popular activity. Over the year The Hideout has become an equestrian
destination for guests from around the world because the care we handle our horses and the quality of our horses. All our horses are started by professional horse trainers following our Authentic Horsemanship process using respectful, low stress training methods. All our wranglers, of whom some have been with us since many years, have solid equestrian backgrounds and peoples skills. Some of our wranglers have been guests at The Hideout for many years prior to joining our riding team.
The Hideout promotes and follows an open-minded approach to
horsemanship and riding. With access to approx. 650,000 acres, we offer a variety of rides of different levels in a seldom seen diversity of terrain and elevations. To access this vast area, we trailer out most of the time loading up our horses and guests and heading the trailheads.
Each evening during cocktail hour, one of our owners or senior wranglers
visits personally with each guest to discuss the available rides and activities of the next day. All rides at The Hideout see a wrangler to guest ratio of 1 to 5 or less. Because of the nature of our riding and the fact that The Hideout Lodge and Guest Ranch is located at 4,200 feet above sea level but has access to elevations up to 11,000 feet. We have a strict weight limit of 230 pounds, dressed in riding gear to respect our horses and riders.
Non-Riding Activities
While the ranch is strongly focused on all things riding, we do offer a limited array of non-riding activities. We have a very nice trapshooting range, archery range, heated lap pool with endless vistas, biking & hiking and guests can take tours to visit Cody and the surrounding area. During the summer season a popular off-site activity is going to the Cody Rodeo.
