Wyoming’s premiere family guest ranch since 1958. We have a smaller guest capacity than most, which allows us to provide individual and personalized care. The ranch’s 10 rustic cabins are tucked into the scenic and remote Sunlight Basin, 50 miles northwest of Cody, in the heart of the Absaroka Mountains.

Surrounded by national forest and just a short drive from Yellowstone National Park, the 7D offers a setting of extraordinary beauty. Whether you are looking for a great guest ranch vacation, a pack trip into Wyoming wilderness, or a fall hunting trip, let our friendly family staff provide you and yours with an experience of a lifetime.

One of the oldest dude ranches in Wyoming, The 7D Ranch began as “The Dewey Riddle Ranch,” a guest ranch homesteaded by Dewey and Elsie Riddle. When the Dominick family of seven acquired it in the fifties, they opened it as a haven for family and friends from the East, renamed it the 7D, and have run it as a family operation ever since. From the Molesworth furniture in the Main Lodge, to the logs of the old cabins, the ranch helps us unite with the past. While much of the old West is quickly evolving, the 7D Ranch holds fast to its roots and offers guests a slice of the West as it was.

The 7D main lodge serves as the central hub of ranch activities. Within the lodge, one will find a crackling fire and comfortable couches on which to relax and unwind. One can choose a book from the lodge’s western and nature library, or one may want to examine the many western and Native American artifacts that adorn the walls.

The 7D guests reside in any of the ten private log cabins scattered about the ranch among aspen groves. Each cabin has one or more private bathrooms and a wood burning stove. Daily maid service is provided and laundry facilities are available.

Our wranglers will match you with your horse and start you off with the basics. Riding lessons are available to all guests every week, providing the opportunity for even the most experienced rider to improve. There are more trails surrounding the 7D than you can experience in one visit.

Some of the country’s best fly-fishing is located in and around Sunlight Valley. The ranch hires a full time fishing guide and instructor. The Sunlight River which runs through the 7D property is filled with colorful Brook trout, and provides an excellent atmosphere even for a first time fisherman.

Hiking is also a premier activity. There are plenty of shorter trails around the ranch for a mellow walk of an hour or two. For the more experienced hiker, we will gladly arrange an all-day climb up one of the many mountains surrounding the ranch.

Evening entertainment is a large part of the weekly routine. This is a great time for staff and guests to interact, and many friendships are made during these times. Some of our activities include: Lawn Sports, Horse Training, Slide Shows, Grizzly Bear and Wolf lectures, Cowboy Singers and Storytellers, Line Dancing, Wildlife Viewing, Cody Night Rodeo, Campfires and Smores.
